Claude is an AI chatbot developed by Anthropic, an artificial intelligence firm founded by ex-OpenAI employees. Claude is based on Anthropic’s research into training helpful, honest, and harmless AI systems, and it’s accessible through chat interface and API.

Claude is a next-generation AI assistant that can perform a variety of tasks, including summarization, search, creative and collaborative writing, Q&A, coding, and more. It stands out for its ability to converse more easily with users and its reduced likelihood to produce harmful outputs. Users can even personalize Claude’s tone, personality, and behavior, offering a level of customization that’s more extensive than many of its competitors.

Claude 2 is the latest model of this AI assistant, which has demonstrated improved performance and longer response capabilities. Notably, Claude 2 scored 76.5% on the multiple choice section of the Bar exam and above the 90th percentile on the GRE reading and writing exams. It can produce responses of up to 4,000 tokens, significantly longer than the 512 tokens of its previous version.

Claude is not an internet-based AI, meaning it does not have the ability to access the internet. It’s a self-contained system designed for predictability and reliability. Claude 2 is available via API and through a public-facing beta website, claude.ai. It’s offered in two versions: Claude, a high-performance model, and Claude Instant, a lighter, less expensive, and faster option.

Users can utilize Claude in many ways, including in the Slack workspace, where it can join conversations, provide information, and generate content. Its advanced memory allows it to remember the entire Slack thread, enabling users to refer back to specific comments and references in a conversation.

The creation of Claude has garnered significant support, including a $300 million investment from Google. It is hailed as a trailblazing innovation set to transform digital conversations and a viable competitor to models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
