Amazon Translate Translator

Amazon Translate is a machine translation service provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). It leverages advanced machine learning technologies to offer high-quality translations in real-time and for large volumes of text. Amazon Translate can be used to localize content for global users, facilitate cross-lingual communication between users, and enable developers to build applications that operate in multiple languages. It is ideal for various use-cases such as integrating multilingual experiences in applications, translating company-authored content, and enabling real-time communication in different languages.

At the core of Amazon Translate is a neural machine translation model, which uses deep learning for superior translation results when compared to traditional statistical and rule-based translation algorithms. This service has been trained across a wide variety of content, use-cases, and domains, which equips it to perform well on different types of content.

The Amazon Translate service operates based on neural networks that have been trained for language translation. Users provide source text in UTF-8 format that they wish to translate, and Amazon Translate returns the translated text, also in UTF-8 format, in the target language.

As of today’s date, Amazon Translate supports translation between 75 languages, including but not limited to Afrikaans, Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, and different variants of Chinese.

Amazon Translate employs a pay-as-you-go model, charging users based on the number of characters of text that are processed. It offers a free tier that allows users to translate up to 2 million characters monthly for the first 12 months, starting from the date of their first translation request. After the expiration of the free usage or if the application usage exceeds the free usage tier, users simply pay standard, pay-as-you-go service rates.

In May 2023, Amazon Translate announced the general availability of a real-time document translation feature. This allows customers to translate HTML and Text documents in real time without the need for pre-processing or post-processing steps. Using this feature, customers can submit a translation request via APIs or the AWS console and receive back translated documents with the source formatting intact.
