Clippy AI Code assistant

The Clippy AI extension can be installed from the Visual Studio Code Marketplace. This extension provides a new command called “Clippy AI: edit file or selection” which can be accessed through the command palette (cmd+shift+P on Mac) or by using the default keyboard shortcut cmd+;. When this command is run, an input box will pop up where you can input your desired text. The Clippy AI extension then generates code suggestions based on your input, which can be inserted into your code.

On March 23, 2023, OpenAI had to turn off their code-da Vinci-001 model, which was a shame. Since this was the only model that worked with Clippy’s code change endpoint, I had to take this addition down as well. I’ll leave the code here so that others can learn from it. If strong models with insertion powers come out in the future, they might be able to bring Clippy back.
